Local NewsTuesday the Marshall County Drainage Board approved the request of Loves Travel Stop to relocate the legal drain that crosses their property at the north west corner of US 30 and Pioneer Drive.

County Surveyor Larry Fisher said the drain is a hindrance to the development of the property due to their need to install underground piping.

Loves proposed to relocate the legal drain out around the east side of the property along Pioneer Drive.  Their second request to reduce the 75 foot setback to 30 feet was also approved.  It was noted that all cost for the relocation will be the responsibility of Loves Travel Stop and that it must meet county standards.

The County Drainage Board also approved the request of the Town of Culver to vacate the Alva L. Porter Drain.  The drain was petitioned in 1912.

In 2012 the Town of Culver received a grant to construct a new storm sewer designed to eliminate flooding on West Lake Shore Drive by replacing the inadequate Alva Porter Drain.  With this vacation the Town of Culver has agreed to assume all the maintenance on the new storm sewer.
