Plymouth Fire and Police were dispatched to 2055 PIDCO Drive, AK Industries Tuesday morning at 11:18 for a structure fire.
As firefighters arrived on scene they found a large amount of dark smoking coming from the east end of the building. Employees had already evacuated the facility and were standing out in the parking areas.
Once inside firefighters located the fire in a resin bin, which is similar to a dumpster. Discarded fiberglass resin is placed in the bin and a chemical reaction is suspected of causing the fire. One of the fire suppression sprinkle heads did spray water on the area and firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the dumpster and put it out with water.
Plymouth Fire Chief Rod Miller said as soon as the call came in, as a precaution he asked for Bremen Fire Department’s ariel truck to assist. After surveying the incident and being sure they had things under control Bremen’s assistance was signal-9.
The chief estimated minimal damage from the fire and within an hour employees were allowed back into the building.
There were no injuries reported.
