The State of Indiana is recognizing its Emergency Medical Services professionals May 17-23, 2015, during Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, a week celebrating and honoring emergency medical services personnel.
EMS week, which is also celebrated this week nationally, brings together local communities and medical personnel who are on the front-line of medicine. The state theme for this year is “EMS: Dedicated for Life,” which acknowledges the training, sacrifice and accomplishments of Indiana’s highly trained emergency medical professionals.
“The hard work of our dedicated EMS professionals is often overlooked, and EMS week helps to change that,” said Robin Stump, Indiana Department of Homeland Security EMS Education and Training Section Chief. “EMS Week serves two distinct purposes. It helps to shine a spotlight on all of the compassionate and vital work that EMS workers do for those around them, and it helps to further educate citizens on how they can help keep their communities safe.”
Indiana has more than 24,000 EMS personnel, 100 EMS training institutions and 700 EMS providers. EMS is frequently the entry point to Indiana’s healthcare system.
