FultonCountySheriff_logoThe Fulton County Sheriff’s Department has received complaints recently from citizens concerning phone calls received from individuals claiming they are with the Sheriff’s Department and making threats for collection of debt.

During the afternoon hours on Thursday, March 26th, a citizen was at the Fulton County Sheriff’s department to file an incident report concerning harassing phone calls when an individual called the citizen’s cell phone. The citizen handed the phone to department personnel.

An individual on the phone claimed to be with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department and gave the name of Brian Jackson. The phone number on the caller ID showed the Sheriff’s Department business line of 574-223-2819. “Jackson” claimed he was trying to collect a debt and was going to have a warrant issued for the subject he called or have the person arrested if they did not contact him back within the hour. The Fulton County Sheriff’s department has NO employee by the name of Brian Jackson.

This is an activity called “spoofing”, and the department advises to use caution and not give out any financial information as the Sheriff’s Office does not ask for that type of information over the phone, nor does the department call people for debt collection.

If you have any questions or concerns on this matter, please contact the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department in person, or call 574-223-2819. You can also call toll free at 1-800-419-2819.
