FreshmanOrientation_registrationEighth grade students and their parents filled the halls at Plymouth High School Wednesday evening for Freshman Orientation.   The event is to open the doors of the school to any student from any school interested in attending PHS and for those currently attending Lincoln Junior High.

FreshmanOrientation_artAfter registering at the doors participants were directed to the cafeteria where various clubs and specialty classes had displays and student and teachers on hand to answer questions.

FreshmanOrientation_theatreGathering in the auditorium, a video of alumni talked briefly of their time at PHS, where they attended college and the career field they were in.  Principal Jim Condon wanted the incoming freshmen to know they would have the opportunities to be whatever they wanted to be with the various offering at PHS.

FreshmanOrientation_cafateriaHarley Harrell, 2015 Senior Class President encouraged students to get involved.  She discussed the many course choices and opportunities students will have during the next four years.

freshmanOrientation_blue rooomThe large crowd was then divided into three groups and attended three breakout sessions:  College preparation skills, where students and parents learned graduation requirements and coursed needed for college admission.  Career readiness explained the various vocational courses offered through the school and the Life at PHS break out session featured freshman students and others who talked about their apprehensive of transitioning from the junior high to the high school.  The students also told about the various athletic, academic and club activities they were involved in.

In the next couple of weeks 8th graders will be meeting one on one with high school guidance counselors to begin selection their courses for next year.
