DONALDSON, IN – On Saturday, August 29th, 2015, the Ancilla College Women’s Soccer team made history as they played their season opener against Muskegon Community College. Making this match the first ever women’s soccer game played in school history by the Chargers.

While Ancilla faced a tough loss against the Jayhawks (10-1), a member of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA), Ancilla College head coach Justin Crew said, “The team gave a great effort and competed the entire game. It was an overall team effort.”

Standouts for the game were freshman Anita Garza, Kailee Zimmerman and Bianca Maxwell. The Chargers put up two shots, while Muskegon had 37. Muskegon was able to score 10 points, and the first goal in program history for Ancilla was made by freshman Heather Jaki.

“It was a tough game and difficult result to take, but I was very happy with the effort given by the team overall,” commented Crew. “Muskegon used a lot of numbers and were able to keep their players fresh. This was difficult for us since we only had two subs. The heavy rain also made it difficult for our young inexperienced keeper. We will learn from this game and get better from here.”

The Chargers will be on the road Wednesday, September 2nd at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, MI. The team will return home on Saturday, September 12th to face off against Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Game time is set for 1:00p.m.
