Luke Houin, a Life Scout from Troop 257 finished up the requirements for his Eagle Scout Sunday afternoon in River Park Square.
Houin’s project was to erect a flag pole in River Park Square. He said the reason he chose this project was to, “honor the men and women who are serving in the armed forces and to those who have served.”
He took time to thank those who assisted with the project; the City of Plymouth, the Plymouth Park Department, the American Legion Post in Plymouth, the VFW, the Elks Lodge, Plymouth FOP 195, Valmont, Ozinga Redi-Mix, P & S Concrete and the scouts and leaders of Troop 251.
Houin then led the color guard in the presentation of the colors and posting the colors on the new flag pole. At the conclusion he led the dozens of people in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The project was turned over to the City of Plymouth with Mayor Mark Senter accepting.
Mayor Senter said, “Forgetting to put a flag here, that the architects and engineers and the City of Plymouth did, turned out to be a greater thing because we were able to get one of the greatest Eagle Scout projects I’ve ever seen right here in downtown Plymouth.”
Senter has been involved in Boy Scouts since he was a kid and for about 20 years he okayed the Eagle Scout projects in Marshall County. He also noted that a plaque will be installed to recognize Luke Houin and his Eagle Scout project. Senter closed by saying, “This is another addition to River Park Square that everyone will enjoy.”
