Winter is just around the corner and the Indiana Department of Transportation’s (INDOT) Northwest District is more prepared than ever, after an overhaul aimed at improving efficiencies and ensuring INDOT crews are most effectively maintaining state roadways.
Following months of hard work and planning to identify where improvements can be made, INDOT’s Northwest District leadership, led by District Deputy Commissioner Rick Powers, is making some big changes.
INDOT district restructuring includes:
Realignment of snowplow routes district-wide to have more efficient snow and ice removal, new equipment to more efficiently tackle snow and ice, including two new tow plows which can clear two lanes of highway at once, while only using one driver and putting the right number of crews where we need them. This includes reopening two maintenance crew bases of operations covering South Bend, Mishawaka, Plymouth, Rochester, Monticello, and Logansport.
INDOT Northwest leadership is confident these changes, which are already in effect, will improve efficiencies, allowing INDOT to reach higher levels of performance for the motoring public and taxpayers of Indiana.
