Ray Reed Memorial_1Sunday afternoon Plymouth F.O.P. Lodge 195 hosted a memorial ceremony honoring the 20th anniversary of the death of Ralph “Ray” Reed, an Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Officer.

Ray Reed Memorial_crowdReed was killed in the line of duty while inspecting a semi on the shoulder of the west bound lane of US 30 between the railroad crossing and Pioneer Seed on August 3, 1995.

Ray Reed Memorial_FamilyOn Sunday Hurshel Hunter, President of FOP 195 welcomed those gathered including Ray’s widow Cathy and his children Ralph Reed III and Becky Reed Bockman.  Hunter spoke of the sacrifice Ray Reed made 20 years ago today.

Ray Reed Memorial_ISP membersPlymouth Mayor, Mark Senter was an ISP Trooper at the time of the fatal accident and said his father had called him while he was on vacation to tell him an officer had been killed from the Bremen Post.  He then read Ode to Remembrance which is engraved on the back of ISP monuments.

Ray Reed Memorial_plaqueKevin Kubsch from the ISP spoke saying, “I was here on that terrible day and three things were silenced with Ray’s death; knowledge, service and dedication and finally integrity.”  He continued, “When those things were silenced we lost a great man with the Indiana State Police and we will never ever forget Ray Reed.”
