CASA_Kinney Volunteer Sept 2015The September Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of Marshall County Volunteer of the Month is Rhonda Kinney.   Rhonda was sworn in as a volunteer in November of 2013 and she is on her first case, which she accepted in February of 2014.  Rhonda is an advocate for children in every aspect of her life: personal, professional and volunteer!  Rhonda has been a speech/language pathologist in the Culver community school corporation for 25 years!

Haley Kittrell, Executive Director of the local CASA office said, “Rhonda has a heart for helping children, and her skills allow her to work with a very specific population of kids in her school setting.  Rhonda is humble but I would like to acknowledge that she has been a big help to myself  and other volunteers, especially in the training for new volunteers, as a resource when we have children we serve who might have unique needs that Rhonda’s skill set falls into.”

One of the unique things about CASA is the ability to fit cases with volunteers and their skill sets and strengths since most volunteers have one case or family at a time.

CASA of Marshall County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors.  CASA of Marshall County follows the National CASA training materials and the next training will be in February 2016.  Requirements to become a volunteer include: minimum age of 21, ability to pass a criminal/CPS background check and social security verification, and the ability to verbally communicate as well as prepare a typed written report to the family court judge regarding the best interests of children in abuse/neglect cases. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Haley Kittrell at (574) 952-1443 or haleyk@co.marshall.in.us .  For more information, check out our website atwww.marshallcountycasa.org
