BATTLE CREEK, MI – The Lady Charger volleyball team dropped their record to 9-11 in a loss on the road against Kellogg Community College with scores of 13-25, 25-14, 25-17, 22-25, and 15-17.

Samantha Brenneman led the offensive attack putting down 13 kills followed by Victoria Bush and Samantha Albers who had eight apiece. Jackie Friel had 33 assists and 23 digs and Natalee Walters served up two aces, led the defense with 27 digs and was perfect in serve receive going 22 for 22.

Coach Singleton had mixed comments about the night, “My middles, Albers and Brenneman, played very aggressive tonight, and I was proud of their efforts offensively. Victoria Bush was on fire hitting down eight kills in just 13 attempts and Jackie Friel, as well as the teams’ other setters, Maddie Price and Laurie Vazquez did a nice job running the offense for us. Natalee Walters also had a solid performance tonight.”

“On the flip side,” continued Singleton, “We have had three matches that we needed one point to finish the match and win and were unable to pull through. Tonight, we were up 14-13 in the fifth set and we just needed one more point to finish and couldn’t get the job done. That is discouraging and I honestly think it is more mental toughness that it is physical toughness. I believe we have a gusty, gritty team, but mentally we have to be tougher. We missed several serves tonight and as a team, we can all serve the ball over the net and in bounds. That is just too many and honestly is all mental.”

Ancilla will return home on Tuesday to take on Muskegon Community College. Game time is set for 6:30p.m.
