With less than ten minutes left to play before heading to the locker rooms, Ancilla (12-17, 4-12 MCCAA) made a run for it and was able to pull a 11 point lead over the Jets (8-18, 6-10 MCCAA) by the halftime buzzer. Alexis Williams (15) and La’Fabian Coleman (14) helped the team maintain their lead by scoring a combined 29 points and Marissa Stephens and Taylor Kuhnle each contributed 10 points for the game.

“I was very proud of our team last night. We really shared the ball well offensively and our defense was as good as it’s been in a number of games. La’Fabian Coleman and Irena James did a great job on their top player holding her to five points in the second half,” remarked Ancilla head coach Tom Robbins on his teams performace.

The Lady Chargers finished their season with 11 more wins than last year 12-17 and have qualified for the NJCAA District Tournament.

Ancilla College Athletic Director Gene Reese commented on the team’s success, “It is exciting to have both our men and women’s basketball teams make the NJCAA District playoff. This is the first time that this has happened since the 2007-2008 season. We wish both teams success on their run toward the national finals.”

The Lady Chargers will play in the first round of the District Tournament on Wednesday, March 3 at Lake Michigan Community College. Game time is set for 7:00p.m.
