DONALDSON, IN – The Ancilla Lady Charger volleyball team improved their record to 11-18 Tuesday night after a win over Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Conference foe Kellogg Community College 26-24, 25-17, 25-17.

Charger Coach Lana Singleton had huge accolades for Samantha Albers who had a tremendous game putting down 15 kills for the Lady Chargers. “Samantha played incredible tonight. Of course when asked Samantha gave all the credit to her teammates, which is typical of Sammy.” Coach Singleton said. Jill Brown and Samantha Brenneman also added to the match with eight and seven kills respectively.

Ancilla was led in assists by Jackie Friel who had a great performance as well with 27 assists. Singleton commented, “Jackie continue to impress me on her plays on balls that everyone else thinks is over.”

On the defensive side, libero Natalee Walters was 19 for 21 in serve receive and had 12 digs. Sophia Smith also added 10 digs for the Chargers.

“Jill Brown did an outstanding job in serve receive going 16 for 16 and our middles, Brenneman and Albers, did a fine job of shutting down Kellogg’s back row attack early in the match with some key blocks,” remarked Singleton. “The first time we played Kellogg in conference play we lost in five. Part of the reason for the loss, was that we did not pass serve well and we did not shut down the back row attack. My girls stepped up tonight and helped swing those factors in our direction. I also wanted to compliment the play of Bayli Fearnow who went in in sets one and two and did some key things for us. It was a great team effort.”

The Chargers are on the road Thursday at Muskegon Community College. Game time is set for 5:30p.m. They will return home Tuesday, October 3rd to play Lansing Community College.
