CENTREVILLE, MICHIGAN – The Ancilla College softball team split a double header at Glen Oaks Community College, winning 24-2 and losing 7-6.
The Chargers pounded out 22 hits in the first game that was shortened to five innings by the eight run rule. Brittany Probasco was 4-5 with a walk, 9 RBI, a double and two home runs. Madyson Price added a grand slam to the mix and finished the game with 5 RBI. Tori Newsome had a 3-5 performance, was hit by a pitch, and scored two runs. Abbey Renner picked up her twelfth win of the season by allowing just two earned runs and striking out five.
In game two, Ancilla bounced back from a 6-1 deficit scoring five runs in the top of the sixth, but were unable to come away with a victory, when the host Vikings drove in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning. Allena McElfresh picked up the loss in five phenomenal innings of relief allowing just one earned run and two hits. Probasco added two hits and two RBI to her resume, while Kayte Miller and Price added two hits each. The win was the first conference victory for the Vikings in four years.
“It was good to come out of the day with 34 hits,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “With that much production we need to find a way to come up with two wins.”
Ancilla (13-11, 6-5 MCCAA) travels to conference leader Kellogg (20-7, 13-1 MCCAA) on Monday, April 13 before returning home to face Muskegon (22-10, 9-3 MCCAA)
