Renner_Probasco (2)DONALDSON, IN – Softball players Abbey Renner and Brittany Probasco were recently awarded with post season honors in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Renner, a pitcher for the Chargers, was the second player in Ancilla softball history to be named to the NJCAA All-Region First Team, which includes Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Renner set a school record for wins in a season (17) and led the region in innings pitched (224). She is currently second in the nation in that category. She also finished the season second in the region and is currently sixth in the nation in strikeouts (192). At the plate she was just as impressive, turning in a .336 batting average and .546 slugging percentage, falling just one home run shy of the school record, finishing the year with five.

“Abbey had a phenomenal year and I’m glad that she was recognized by our region,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “She pitched all but about 50 innings for us this season and was a bulldog in the circle. At the plate she was clutch, coming up with big-time hits when we needed them throughout the entire season.”

Probasco, who spent her season at the hot corner, was named to the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference Second Team. Probasco led Ancilla with 51 hits, 30 RBI, 23 runs scored, a .395 average, .451 on base percentage, and a .566 slugging percentage.

“Brittany had a great season,” said Reese. “She just comes out every day and quietly does her job while turning in exceptional numbers. She’s not just a force at the plate. I would put her glove and reaction time at third up next to anyone.”

The Chargers finished the season 20-25 and 13-19 in the MCCAA West, good for a fifth place finish in the nine team conference. They will return seven players off of this season’s roster for their sophomore campaign, including Renner and Probasco.
