PLYMOUTH – Whether it was a return home or just an extension of a great Tuesday night game, Plymouth’s Lady Pilgrims hope it continues as they took a win over New Prairie 66-25.

A trip to LaPorte earlier in the week showed an increase in intensity – top to bottom – and playing their first home game in about a month, that intensity level continued to go up.

“The LaPorte game moved us up a few steps there and we told the kids that we just wanted to build on that the rest of the year,” said Plymouth head coach Dave Duncan. “I thought they certainly did that.”

There was little to complain about on both ends of the ball as Plymouth held New Prairie scoreless for the majority of the first quarter and the Lady Cougars did not take a shot from the field in the first or third quarters. Not that were really any good shots to take anyway. Plymouth forced 26 turnovers and held New Prairie to 22 percent shooting on the night.

“I thought we did a good job taking away the penetration,” said Duncan. “I saw them a couple of games earlier in the year and they were able to get the ball in the paint a little more than they did tonight. That has to do with our intensity level once again being so high.”

Individually Hunter Stevens continues to be in another zone following her double/double on Tuesday night with 21 points and six rebounds.

“Hunter is playing at a pretty good level right now and what a good time to be doing it,” said Duncan. “She’s attacking the basket hard, getting to the free throw line, rebounding the ball. She’s really elevated her game.”

Offensively ball movement and shot selection were at a premium. After several disappointing shooting games just a week ago, Plymouth hit 54 percent from the floor on the night.

We moved the ball really well,” said Duncan. “It seems when we get the ball inside and then kick it back out those are really good shots for us and we have a tendency to hit those pretty often when that happens for us.”

“Our seniors are ready to go now. We challenged them a week ago, had a little fun and they are responding.”

Plymouth – now 10-6 on the year – will be at home again on Saturday against NLC foe Concord.
