PLYMOUTH – The grass is definitely greener on the home side of the fence for Plymouth’s Lady Pilgrims as they continued their home stand with another big win over Wawasee 51-34.

The final score doesn’t indicate some anxious moments as Plymouth went into the locker room at half time trailing by four. It was all due to tremendous patience on the part of Wawasee.

“They did the same thing against Norwell – they were very patient – and it looked like they were trying to take 30 or 40 seconds a possession.” said Plymouth coach Dave Duncan. “We broke down (on defense) and we weren’t the aggressors on the other end of the floor.”

An offense that was willing to wait for a perfect shot and a defense that was able to get into the passing lanes took a fast Lady Pilgrim start and slowed it down considerably. Scoring the first eight points of the game and keepin the Lady Warriors from a shot in the first two minutes – Wawasee clawed back for their halftime lead.

“Wawasee is a good team they are well coached and all year they’ve played very well in spurts,” said Dave Duncan. “I thought in the second quarter we weren’t aggressive, we weren’t patient – we started doing things that we didn’t want to do. In the third quarter we came out the first two minutes and set the tone again by being a little more aggressive on the defensive end.”

It was a resurgence of the defensive intensity that has been the trademark of the current Plymouth winning streak that broke down Wawasee and allowed Plymouth to take a lead right out of the locker room at the half and never look back. Kaydon Fosler was a big part of that.

“There were some things said at halftime and I think they came out and were a little more motivated,” said Duncan. “Kaydon’s (Fosler) length on the front of our trap is unbelievable. She gets up their with her armspan and makes so many things happen. I don’t know what the turnovers were but she made a lot of deflections and a lot of bad passes there.”

“I think we scored 10 points in the first two minutes and in the second quarter we scored three. It’s a matter of turning your intensity up. When the ball goes in the basket you can get in that trap for some reason our half court man wasn’t as good tonight but our trap was good.”

Hunter Stevens moved to within five points of the Lady Pilgrims career scoring record with an 18 point night. Her next five points will move her past Elaine (Hessel) Sommers to the number one spot for career points. Haley Harrell added 15 and Kaydon Fosler was in double figures with 10.
