Lane Dodson_shooting_2Friday morning 33 year old Lane Dodson turned himself into authorities for a warrant that was issued by Judge Bowen of Marshall Superior Court 1in January for a December 29 incident.

The probable cause affidavit details the incidents of December 23rd, 24th, 28th and 29th which all lead to a warrant being issued.  On December 23rd and 24th Lane Dodson is alleged to have battered his wife, Heather Dodson and on one occasion brandished a handgun and stated he would “rid the world of her.”

On December 28th Dodson is alleged to have been in a physical altercation with Justin Pointon.  Dodson accused Pointon of having sexual relations with his wife.  When city officers arrived on the scene of the incident Dodson was found with a concealed firearm in a shoulder holster, although it was not used in the incident.  The P.C. does note that he had a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm at the time.  Subsequently the Indiana State Police have revoked her carry permit.

The December 29th incident began when Heather Dodson was being interviewed by police and learned that her husband Lane was searching for her.  The Marshall County Dispatch Center transmitted information including a description of his vehicle and that he was wanted for domestic battery.  Officers were also warned of the possibility that Dodson may be carrying a firearm.

Trooper Ennis located the suspect’s vehicle northbound on Oak Drive about 6:30 in the evening.  Dodson is alleged to have changed lanes without a signal and the trooper initiated a traffic stop. Dodson pulled into the K-Mart parking lot.  Two city officers, Bridget Hite and Matt Emenhiser were at Wal-Mart and responded and saw the trooper at Dodson’s driver’s door.  Officer Emenhiser went to the door because he had dealt with Dodson the night before.  Emenhiser opened the door and requested Dodson exit the vehicle. He refused and revealed a handgun in his hand and pointed it directly at Officer Emenhiser.   The officer immediately pushed the door shut and went to the front of the vehicle, all the time Dodson tracked the officer with the gun.

The P.C. states, at this point shots were fired.  The investigation by the Indiana State Police revealed the Dodson fired one shot through the front windshield, in the director of Officer Emenhiser.  He also fired one shot through the roof of the vehicle.

Officers struck Dodson three times.  Due to the injuries he received on December 29th Lane was hospitalized for a substantial length of time undergoing surgery on this neck, wrist and shoulder.  Dodson required special medical treatment and on Friday his physical and medical condition was evaluated.  Lane Dodson was placed on House Arrest with a GPS ankle bracelet.

Charges pending against Dodson are Count I: Attempted Murder a felony, Count II Intimidation a level 5 felony. Count III domestic battery a class A misdemeanor, County IV domestic battery a class A misdemeanor and Count V Battery with moderate bodily injury a level 6 felony.
