On October 29th the mother of 2 year old Serenity Wilson, Krysti Lavanway, pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in a death. Sentencing for her guilty plea is scheduled December 23rd in Marshall Superior Court I.
A few hours after pleading guilty, Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman charged Lavanway and her 23 year old boyfriend, Shane Weedling with murder.
The prosecutor believes Serenity Wilson died at the hands of Shane Weedling. Autopsy results revealed her death was due to multiple blunt force injuries to her head.
Weedling also faces charges of aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
Prosecutor Nelson Chipman said, “Ms. Lavanway has pled guilty to a Level 1 felony of neglect of a dependent resulting in death of the dependent with her sentence to be determined by Judge Bowen. We are confident the evidence supports her plea of guilty, and are equally confident Judge Bowen will hand down an appropriate sentence to that charge.”
