indiana_main_streetInterest is increasing on the possibility of implementing the Main Street programs in Plymouth again.

Indiana Main Street encouraged the revitalization and restoration of downtown areas in Indiana cities and towns.  The program provides technical assistance and education opportunities to participating communities.

The Indiana Main Street four point approach involves: Design by enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging supportive new construction, development sensitive design management systems and long term planning.    Organization by building consensus and cooperation among the many groups and individuals involved in the revitalization process.  Promotion by marketing the commercial district’s assets to customers, potential investors, businesses, local citizens, and visitors and Economic Restructuring, strengthening the district’s existing economic base while finding ways to expand it to meet new opportunities and challenges from outlying development.

On Wednesday, July 1st interested citizens and businesses can attend the Downtown Revitalization meeting at 5:30 and learn about Indiana Main Street from the state’s program manager. The meeting will be held in Wild Rose Moon, 115 North Michigan Street in downtown Plymouth.

Currently over 100 communities in Indiana are Main Street communities.  Topics that will include in the presentation are: What is Main Street, vision for the future and ways that anyone interested can volunteer.

The Main Street program is brought to you by the Downtown Revitalization Committee, Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Plymouth.
