Chamberlin said, “By law we must provide 30 minutes of visitation for free.”  Currently video visitation is offered in 10 minute increments and with the new system it will be 15 minute increments.

Email will be part of the new contract.  Inmates will have 10 free minutes to send and receive email and additional minutes will be charged at $.15.

Video visitation and emailsare designed specifically for jail facilities to maximize control and security and increase operating efficiencies.

When asked about monitoring Chamberlin said, “The company does 90 percent and we can also monitor for threats or illegal communications.”  He also noted that Telmate will save the jail thousands of dollars in maintenance costs of video visitation equipment.  Telmate is currently in 340 facilities around the United States including 20 county jails in Indiana.

Telmate will also handle the inmate phones in the jail.
