Solid WasteMembers of the Marshall County Solid Waste District Board were surprised to learn that an employee has racked up 250 of compensatory time by the end of 2014.

Board member Jon VanVactor said, “This is a liability the board should be aware of.  In nearly 7 years this employee has documented these extra hours of work and if we were to have to pay them off it would be $5,252.50.”  It was noted that many of these hours were earned since 2008.

The board discussed a rewrite of the personnel police to put a cap on compensatory hours, similar to the one the county has.  They also voted to send a memo to employees notifying them that no more comp time is to be acquired.    If an employee has to work over or extra hours they will be required to take time off on Mondays when the office is closed to the public.
