Solid WasteComposting, a centuries-old method for recycling kitchen and yard waste, is an easy way to make free garden fertilizer, improve soil structure, and keep food waste out of the landfill. To commemorate Earth Day, which is always celebrated on April 22, Marshall County Solid Waste is offering a free 65-gallon plastic compost bin to one lucky winner (a $70.00 value).

To enter the contest, stop by the Recycle Depot, 1900 Walter Glaub Drive, during normal business hours until April 21. The winner will be drawn at random at noon on Earth Day.

For those who want to learn about composting, Recycle Depot Director Marianne Peters will be teaching a class called “The Rotten Truth About Compost” on Tuesday, April 21, from 7-8 PM at the Recycle Depot. Please call 574-935-8618 to register. Space is limited to 25 people. The cost is $3 for materials.   Composting is fun, easy, and oh-so rewarding!
