Plymouth Lions HighwayMarshall County Highway Department Superintendent Jason Peters was on hand at the last meeting of the Plymouth Lions Club.  He along with Marshall County Commissioner, Debra Griewank answered questions during a question and answer session about the Marshall County Highway Department.

The Marshall County Highway Department is responsible for maintenance on all county roads, whether it be patching holes, grading a gravel road, or plowing snow in the winter.  Their contribution to the community is more than what can be easily seen.  Peters talked about a new piece of equipment called the Asphalt Zipper which reuses current road materials.  Although the cost was high, thus far it has saved the county $72,000.  All the benefits of full-depth reclamation, stabilization, asphalt grinding and milling are in a very powerful, yet compact Asphalt Zipper grinding machine.

Issues with snow removal were discussed but all present thanked the Highway Department for their hard work in keeping our roads clear of snow and safe for travel.  There are 28 plows in service in the County.  Peters also stated there are 931 miles of road in Marshall County.

In other business the Lions Club discussed training classes for April and their next fundraiser which will be Saturday May 9th, a Nelson’s BBQ Chicken fundraiser in the parking lot of Tractor Supply in the Pilgrim Place Shopping Center.

An update on Operation KidSight was discussed and as of March 30th Lions have screened 466 children and have scheduled 78 children in Argos, 160 children in Bremen and local children in various child care centers around the county.  This is just one of the many projects the Plymouth Lions Club sponsors.  Lions are about providing service and our strength is directly tied to our members.  Anyone interested in joining the Plymouth Lions Club should contact any Lions Club member.
