The end of July Marshall County REMC Operation Round Up® board awarded three grants, totaling $5,400, to the following organizations:
Ancilla College received funding to help fund the Pyxis Medication Training System to benefit the overall nursing program by providing better training and decreased patient medication errors throughout the health care system. Ancilla College is a two-year, Liberal Arts College located in Donaldson, Ind. To learn more about Ancilla College visit their website at www.ancilla.edu.
Marshall County Single Parent Program received funding to help pay for pre-paid gas vouchers that can be earned to help single parents get to any secondary education or training. Additionally, the money will be used to buy the program a new computer. The Single Parent Program is designed to help low income families with multi-dimensional problems become economically and socially self-sufficient. Clients work with a case manager on a monthly basis to set goals, look at progress, and get referrals. The program is free of charge to clients and educational goals are a priority. Wythougan Valley Preservation received funding to aid with the restoration of the oldest public building in the county, Jacoby Church, which will ensure its continued presence on the landscape as a standing reminder of Marshall Counties’ collective past. Wythougan is a county-wide organization dedicated to educating the public about historic preservation and participating in certain preservation projects for the good of the public. Operation Round Up® is a program in which Marshall County REMC members can make a difference in their communities by rounding up their monthly electric bill to the next highest dollar. The rounded up amount is accumulated in a separate fund and distributed quarterly to local charitable organizations. A board of directors, made up of volunteers from the community, decides how to distribute the funds based upon the review of applications received for funding. Since the program began in July of 2013 Operation Round Up® has awarded $41,400 to more than 20 organizations in Marshall County.
The Operation Round Up® program allows Marshall County REMC members to reach out to worthy causes in their communities and work together to help others. Thank you to those members who round up their electric bills to the next highest dollar each month and to the Marshall County Community Foundation who make these donations possible.
