Solid WasteMembers of the Marshall County Solid Waste Management District and recycling Depot Board met Monday for their first meeting of the new year without Executive Director Mike Good who resigned last month after a grand jury indicted him on two counts of theft.

Board Attorney Ken Lukenbill said Good has inquired about vacation time and compensatory pay last week.  In reviewing the personal policy it was discovered the SWMD doesn’t exactly follow the county’s policy and that there are two policies they are using.

In reviewing the two policies Lukenbill determined that Good qualifies for 20 working days a year of paid vacation. He earned his 20 days in 2013 which would be paid for in 2014 and 18.3 days earned in 2014 which would be paid for in 2015.

Lukenbill pointed out that Mr. Good used comp days but policy explained that the director does not qualify for comp days.

After a discussion it was determined that Good be required to make his request in writing, detailing his specific request.

Board members were also given a copy of the job description for review with final approval planned for next month.   They also discussed compensation which currently is approximately $56,000 annually. Board members discussed the possibility of reducing the salary and determining pay based on experience of the right candidate.  They discussed a range of pay from $43,000 up to $52,000 but made no determination pending a review of compensation paid by other comparable solid waste district operations in the state.
