The State of Indiana is now accepting nominations for the 2015 Mr. and Miss Math and Mr. and Miss Science awards. These honors recognize four outstanding high school seniors for their exemplary performance in the subjects of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Senator Randy Head said, “As our state continues to expand its life science and technology industries, students must recognize these fields as important to our state’s future as well as their own.”

These awards recognize students’ excellence in STEM classes, as well as extracurricular activities, work/research projects, leadership roles and community service. The nominations will be reviewed by a panel of STEM experts, including teachers, college and university instructors, and staff from the Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana Education Roundtable.

Winning students will receive $1,000 college scholarships through Indiana’s College Choice 529 Direct Savings Plan. Nominations for the awards can be submitted here, and the deadline for nominations is 6 p.m. EDT on April 19. Governor Mike Pence will announce the winners in May.

Senator Head closed this week’s statement by stating, “In the coming weeks, I will keep you updated on the progress of the General Assembly as we continue working to strengthen Indiana’s education system.”
