summit chapelCountry music artist Jake Elliott will be the featured musician at Summit Chapel School this Sunday, September 13 at 2 p.m.  A lifelong musician, Elliott is a retired farmer and a World War II navy veteran who resides near Tippecanoe.  Mel Mullins will be performing along with Elliott.  Adding some color to the old one room school, will be a quilt display organized by Karen Delp.  Some of the quilts are the handiwork of the Friendship Quilters’ Guild.

Summit Chapel School is owned by Tippecanoe Township and leased to Wythougan Valley Preservation Council to assist in upkeep.  The structure and neighboring graveyard was placed on the National Register of Historic Places several years ago.  For 80 years, Summit Chapel School served the educational needs of local children in a one-room setting.  There was no indoor plumbing, no running water, and the walk to school was straight uphill.  It is prominently located on State Road 10 between State Roads 19 and 331, south of Bourbon.
