comfortsuitesThe construction of a hotel that has been in the works since 2009 located on North Michigan Street in Plymouth could possibly be nearing completion.

The current owner, Raj Patel, hasn’t released any information aside from saying they could be ready for final inspection on Tuesday of next week. The building permit is now listed under Vidhil I, LLC. The company is one of six companies listed at an address in Ft. Wayne.

Plymouth Building Commissioner, Keith Hammonds, said he did an inspection on the property earlier this month. Hammonds said items that he had listed as still needing completion as of last week were partially completed. A pressure test of the sprinklers was passed by the Plymouth Fire Chief ; however, a back flow test that must be approved by the Water Department had not been completed.

The first building permit for the property was issued to J.P. Plymouth, LLC in January, 2009. Signage erected in front of the structure identified it as a Comfort Inn. ChoiceHotels.com states that rooms can be booked after April 14, 2015.

In 2010, developer Kamron Mirza indicated his organization would have the hotel opened by March, 2010. At that time, Mirza said, “When the economy slowed down, financing was hard.” According to Mizra, they had already invested $2 million out-of -pocket on the project.

Maust Architectural Services of South Bend had drawn the original building plans and specifications for the original developers for 60 sleeping rooms and an indoor pool.

At this time, Hammonds said he believes there could be 73 sleeping rooms along with an indoor pool on the east side of the 14,630 square foot first floor. The second floor had been listed as an additional 13,000 square feet. There is also footage set aside for a meeting room.

Patel said Tuesday that he hopes to have everything done for inspection by February 23, but Hammonds said he has not been contacted for an inspection as yet.
