On Tuesday, Oct. 27 the Marshall County REMC Operation Round Up® board awarded 6 grants, totaling $4,380, to the following organizations:
Bourbon Public Library received funding to help with the expansion of the library’s facility. The money received will be used to purchase a large activity area rug for the children. The Bourbon Public Library strives to provide open and equal access to resources and services which meet the educational and cultural needs of the community.
Calvary Lutheran Preschool received funding to help purchase a heart defibrillator for a student who has a heart malfunction. With the purchase of a heart defibrillator, the teachers and staff can be prepared at all times. The Calvary Lutheran Preschool provides a Christian-based, developmentally appropriate preschool education to all children ages 3-6.
Culver Park Department received funding to assist students with the certification fee they must obtain to enter the Red Cross Training Program in order to become a lifeguard. These individuals will be able to assist with teaching swim lessons through the Culver Park Department at no cost to participants. The Culver Park Department provides year round recreational opportunities to the Culver community and surrounding areas.
LaPaz-North Township Volunteer Fire Department received funding to purchase one of three Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) needing replaced. The LaPaz-North Township Volunteer Fire Department is fire protection and emergency response service for North Township and the town of LaPaz, with mutual aid service to Polk Township and other area firefighting units.
The Marshall County Melody Makers received funding to assist with various expenses in hopes of making the choir more affordable for those who are on a fixed budget. The Marshall County Melody Makers strive to enrich the local community through sharing the joy of music with local organizations and performances.
Youth Leadership Marshall County received funding to help lower the cost to participants of the program. Youth Leadership Marshall County is a youth organization focused on taking potential student leaders and shaping them into positive community citizens.
The Operation Round Up® program allows Marshall County REMC members to reach out to worthy causes in their communities and work together to help others. Thank you to those members who round up their electric bills to the next highest dollar each month and to the Marshall County Community Foundation who make these donations possible.
The next round of grants will be awarded in January. Charitable organizations within the Marshall County REMC service territory are eligible to apply. The organization does not have to be a member of Marshall County REMC. Applications can be picked up at the REMC office or downloaded at www.marshallremc.com.
