CentennialPark_enteranceThis month the Plymouth Park Board approved consideration of another Eagle Scout Projects.

Curtis Smith, a Life Scout with Troop 257 would like to explore the options for a 6 to 9 hole Disc Golf Course at Centennial Park.

Smith explained, disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee. Just like golf, the object is to complete the course with the fewest strokes, or in this case, fewest throws.  You start each hold from the tee area and throw to the hole, which is a basket.

Smith said, “Disk golf is a growing sport all over the world but especially in the Midwest.”  He said college students are getting involved and it can help bring people to Plymouth.  Smith said, “It would be a great addition to our park.  A nine hole course takes about 8 acres and Smith said he would like to look at the area where the tennis courts are located.

The baskets, similar to the hole in golf retail for about $300 each. Park superintendent Mike Hite noted, “The baskets are removable so they won’t interfere with any other events in the park.”

Smith was given approval to continue exploring the options and locations with Superintendent Hite.  This will allow him the ability to begin the fundraising for his Eagle Scout project.

In January the Park Board approved the Eagle Scout project for Luke Houin to place a flagpole with landscaping and light at River Park Square.
