Community GardenMembers of the Plymouth Park Board approved the request of Debbie Palmer from Marshall County Soil and Water to expand the Community Garden in River Park Square.

Monday evening Palmer said the community gardens have been at the corner of Garro and River Streets for about 10 years.  Her proposal is to remove the raised bed this fall and create 5 to 10 new ground level beds along River Street that are 72 inches apart to accommodate the park’s riding lawn mowers.

Community Garden_1Palmer said her objective is to increase access to healthy foods, provide workshops on gardening, healthy soil and conservation at the performance stage and develop opportunities for volunteer activities.

The request included building compost bins, a storage barn for tools, permanent signage and building keyhole gardens.

Community Garden_2The board approved removal of the old raised gardens after this season and the creation of new ones in the new location. The compost bins,   storage barn, sign and keyhole gardens will be considered later with more details and park Superintendent Mike Hite’s recommendations.
