Phil ScottWhen the school year resumes this week many high school students and staff members will likely see a familiar face; Phil Scott is on board, working to set up community internship opportunities for high school students!

Although the position is new to the Plymouth Community School Corporation, Scott is not; he has worked for PCSC for nearly nine years. He was first hired as a computer technology specialist in September of 2008 and according to PCSC Human Resources, in 2011 he became a social studies teacher; both of these positions were at Lincoln Junior High School. His duties at the junior high also encompassed TV broadcasting production, and he worked daily with 7th and 8th grade PTV2 students in a hands-on fashion teaching them the ropes of how to produce a daily TV show that airs throughout Lincoln Jr. High.

Scott is now the Internship Coordinator for both Plymouth High School and for the PBL Project Based Learning High School, which is located within PHS and is called the Weidner School of Inquiry, also known as WSOI.  “I am truly excited about both the opportunity this will present to our kids partnering with the community, and the personal challenge it presents me”, Scott stated.

He is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University in Business, Indiana University with a B.S. in Education, and a Masters Degree in Education from Olivet Nazarene University.

From 1998 to 2008 Scott worked for Bremen Middle School as a Social Studies/Mass Media Teacher.

He has also served the local community by working for the EMS, Fire & Police Departments between 1981 and 1995.  In 1995, he left emergency services, and began his career in Education.

When Scott is not in the classroom you may likely find him nearby, teaching driver’s education. He is a certified drive instructor/examiner and is also the co-owner of Hoosier Driving Academy.

Plymouth Community School Corporation is proud to have Scott now working at the high school level in this new capacity, lining up internship opportunities for upper classmen. High school students can find Scott in his office, which is located on the upper level of the main gym inside the TV broadcasting studio area.

Scott encourages local businesses that are interested in offering high school internship opportunities to contact him directly either via email at pscott@plymouth.k12.in.us or via phone at Plymouth High School: 574-936-2178 Ext. 1222.
