PHSFootballVolunteer_FireHouse1Members of the Plymouth Rockie Football program are giving back this year.

PHSFootballVolunteer_FireHouse2A new requirement set forth by Head Coach John Barron and this year’s Football Mom, Laura Mann is to have each player, freshmen, junior varsity and varsity members volunteer 2 hours of their time in the community.  There is a specific list of project available for the boys to choose from.

PHSFootballVolunteer_FireHouse3On Friday afternoon a mixed group of Rockies converged on the Plymouth Fire House and worked on a landscaping project.   The north side of the building hasn’t been landscaped since the building was constructed years ago.  A concrete barrier between the building and the parking lot created the perfect place for landscaping but for years the area has only grown weeds.

PHSFootballVolunteer_FireHouse4High school football players, pulled weeds, shoveled top soil, broke up dirt clogs, raked out soil and planted plants.

PHSFootballVolunteer_FireHouse5Plymouth Fire Chief Rod Miller said, “I think this project is a great way for the team to give back to the community that supports them.  When Ms. Mann asked me about a landscaping project at the fire house I was happy to have the team.”  When asked how the project was funded Chief Miller said,  “I took some money from the budget and purchased the plants and the Street Department provided the top soil.”

PHSFootballVolunteer_fireHouse6Other volunteer opportunities for the Rockies include the Marshall County 4-H Fair 5K Color Dash, a fun day a Pilgrim Manor socializing with residents, assisting the Marshall County Boys and Girls Club with their Olympics and the Color Run for Freedom Park.
