Wednesday Plymouth High School Teachers and staff were treated to a special lunch!
PHS students involved in FTA (Future Teachers of America) held a celebration luncheon during 4th hour to celebrate another successful year at PHS!
Traditionally, PHS FTA Club Members purchase small gifts for teachers throughout the year, hold an annual teacher luncheon and job shadow teachers.
The club is for students who are thinking about entering the field of education. Each student in the club selects a favorite teacher at the beginning of the year and then spends at least one-day job shadowing that person. FTA members from PHS are scattered throughout all of the schools, as well as, St. Michael’s Catholic School in Plymouth.
Kathryn Hickman, a FTA club member, said she likes being active so much in the club that she decided to be a member all four years while at PHS. The senior will be attending Manchester University this fall where she plans to become a pharmacist. She said her backup plan is to teach chemistry.
Although her first career choice isn’t teaching, Hickman said Future Teachers of America has given her a greater appreciation for the teaching profession. “It’s made me respect what the teacher’s do for us. It is always great to be able to give back to the people who give you so much.”
Hickman was proud to say the 30-plus student members that make up this year’s FTA club, paid for and provided all of the food for Wednesday’s special luncheon.
