IMG_0256The Plymouth Varsity closed out their regular season shredding the field at Mystic Hills on Saturday winning the Lancer Invitational.  Several program records and career bests we’re earned.  As a team ALL five players fired rounds 78 or better earning a season and program best 302!

Today’s 302 was an improvement of 10 shots off our season and program record 312 from earlier this month at Rozella Ford.  IHSAA Sectional play is next on the docket Friday at Rozella Ford.  Seeing our guys peaking at the right time is a good sign!
The highlight of the day was a career round for Sophomore Hudson Yoder who fired a 74 earning him Medalist honors!  Also having a career day was Freshman John Schenk who fired a 76.  Senior Ben Schenk got back on track carding a 75, Sophomore Micah Calhoun suffered two triple bogeys and worked a 77, Senior Reis Yoder was the dropped score a meager 78.  Individually all five of our guys finished no worse than 10th.
Inside the numbers, the Pilgrims as a team hit 64% of their greens in regulation, a remarkable statistic!  Collectively our players we’re putting for birdie on 58 of the 90 greens they played.  The consistency at which each player struck the ball was entertaining and amazing to witness!
Greens in regulation:
Ben Schenk 10
Reis Yoder 11
Micah Calhoun 10
Hudson Yoder 13
John Schenk 14
The players also hit it well from the tee.  As a team we averaged 51% of our Fairways.  Another program record was the number of birdies as a team – 12 – Micah Calhoun earned four and each of the others grabbed two a piece.
Putting was an area we could have improved.  Our three lowest scoring individuals racked up 9 three putt greens on the day.  Granted the greens at Mystic Hills are large, however our lag putts could’ve been better to afford us a few less strokes.
Overall I was very proud of our guys as a group and individually.  The players have put forth a lot of effort this season in preparation for a day like today.  It was satisfying to see the fruits of their labor.
