The Plymouth Lions club was honored to have Lion Dave Eisen from the Mishawaka Lions Club GLT-Global Leadership Team for local District 25-G and PDG Lion Paul Russell MD-25GMT Coordinator from Lakeville for a training seminar asking “What Makes An Excellent Club.” Questions were answered like, what does service minded mean? And the characteristics of excellence were discussed and how to achieve these goals within each local Lions Club. A few of the characteristics are being service minded, offering good communication within the club, see strong membership growth, and effective leadership and club operations.
In addition, the community is invited to help determine what their needs are and how the Lions Club can help meet these needs. Needs Assessment Forms are currently being sent to area businesses and community leaders in order to form an overview of how the Plymouth Lions Club can improve and better serve the community. For example one question is “What programs and services do you think are needed in the community both presently and in the future.” One other question is, “Do you feel that residents are aware of the programs and services that take place in the community, and if not, do you have any ideas on how to make them aware?” If you receive one please fill it out and return it…with your thoughts for our community, great things can be accomplished.
White Cane safety Day celebrates blind and visually impaired people’s achievements in the United States on October 15th every year. It also reminds people about how the white cane is an important tool in helping the blind and the visually impaired live with greater independence. Recently the Lions Club held a fundraiser at Wal-Mart and explained the different areas of help they provide to the blind as well as glasses for children who are unable to pay for them, including the Kidsight program in area schools. It was amazing to see how many young children reached in their pockets without being urged by their parents to help other needy children. You will see in the picture the happiness on the young ladies face that just helped someone else. Seeing and feeling this kind of joy is just one of the many rewards in becoming a Lions Club Member.
