PoleBarn_home_1Mike Delp a member of the Plymouth Plan Commission discussed some concerns he has with a new home being built on Baker Street during their meeting Tuesday night.

PoleBarn_Home_2A pole barn type home is being built on a residential lot that has set vacant for a number of years, following an arson fire.

PoleBarn_home_3Julian Rouch is building his retirement home on the lot and decided to use the post and beam construction which will allow him to have 10 inch thick insulated walls and a large garage attached to the back of the home that will house his RV and double-decker pontoon boat.

PoleBarn_Home_4Delp said he has been approached by several citizens who are concerned with the pole building construction.  He said, “I have some serious concern if we are going to see this type of construction popping up all over the city.”  Delp asked City Building Commissioner, Keith Hammonds if he had rendering of the final exterior of the home to wit Hammonds said no.

PoleBarn_Home_5It was noted that residential building codes do allow for pole construction.

Delp said until he sees what the finished home looks like he has concerns and said, “If I were a neighbor I would have concerns on my property values.”  It was also noted that the city ordinance does not require the siding to run vertical or horizontal.

Doug Feece said, “I have concerns too but I think we need to watch and see what happens with this one and before they ever multiply we can come up with something.”
