Death of childPlymouth Police are investigating the death of a child.

Friday afternoon about 2:30 a 2 ½ year old child came to the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth with severe injuries.  The child was treated and then airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital.

Plymouth Police started an investigation at the hospital and then moved to the Economy Inn on North Michigan Street.

The child died Saturday evening about 5:34 from the injuries received.

At 6:55 Saturday evening City Police arrested 23 year old Shane Weedling for neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury and possession of marijuana.

Weedling had a relationship with the mother of the child but was not the father of the child.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy on Monday.
