Police_car123 year old Xavier Brooks-Smith of Chicago was arrested last Thursday for reckless driving.  City Officer Ben McIntyre received a report of a vehicle traveling in excess of 100 mph eastbound on US 30 from State Road 331.  The officer was able to clock the suspected vehicle traveling at 130  mph.  Brooks-Smith was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail and held on a $1,500 cash bond.  He was released on the 16th with no judicial review.

Plymouth Officer Bridget Hite was dispatched to the 2,000 block of Lake Avenue for a complaint of an underage drinking party on Thursday about 8:15 in the evening.  She located 21 year old Brandon Carpenter of Tippecanoe who had a warrant out of Marshall County for disorderly conduct.  Carpenter was lodged in the County Jail on a $750 cash bond.

Thursday night at 11:20 Officer McIntyre conducted a traffic stop at Berkley and Columbus.  During the subsequent investigation it was learned that the driver, 41 year old Luis Perez of Plymouth was driving while suspended with a previous conviction.  He held in the Marshall County Jail on a $755 cash bond.

58 year old Dixie Warner of Plymouth was arrested on Friday night about 8 p.m. following a complaint of a female walking down the road yelling that she was going to kill someone.  Officer Hite located Warner and found her to be extremely intoxicated and very upset.  She was transported to the County Jail and held for public intoxication, possession of a scheduled II controlled substance and disorderly conduct.

Just after 11 Friday night Officer John Weir initiated a traffic stop at Jackson Heights Road and Michigan Street for a traffic violation.  19 year old Yohel Osequera-Ordanez was found to have never received a driver’s license.  He was lodged in the county jail for operator never licensed.

Saturday evening about 5:15 Officer McIntyre was dispatched to a shoplifting complaint at JC Penney.  The clerk at the store said the male subject, 44 year old Brain Krull of South Bend ran from the store concealing items and got into a vehicle and fled.  County police located the suspect on Michigan Road north of Plymouth with items located from the store.  He also had a suspended driver’s license.  Krull was booked into the jail on a $755 cash bond.

Listeners and readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
