Plymouth_Logo_2014The 2015 Niche rankings have been released and the City of Plymouth is ranked 4th of the Best Towns in Indiana to Raise a Family.

Niche ranks US towns based on school ratings, crime rates, age demographics, and access to affordable housing and childcare. A high ranking indicates that a town attracts young families with good schools and a safe community.

On the rating scale Plymouth Received an A-, 2 B+’s, 2 B’s, a B- and a C+.  The A- rating was for housing where the Niche Report incorporates statistics that capture how good an area is to purchase a home. The two B+’s were in education and community.   Theeducation grade incorporates the average K-12 overall grade for the public school serving the area, where each school is weighted by the number of students it serves.  The housing grade incorporates statistics that capture how good an area is to purchase ahome.

The City of Plymouth received 2 B’s one for crime and Safety and one for access to daycares.   Niche’s crime and safety grade looks at the statistics of the general safety of the community while the daycares grade is determined by proximity and availability.

The City had a B- for groceries.  The grade comes from looking at proximity and the availability and the C+ grade was for libraries which are also determined by proximity and availability.

Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter said, “This came totally out of left field.  This rating is not anything we applied for or even knew anything about!  He continued, “This is a very pleasant surprise that we will not take lightly.  It’s Plymouth citizens and Plymouth employees that have done the hard work of making us what we have become!”

Looking at the list of Best Towns in Indiana to Raise a Family you’ll find Carmel at number one followed by West Lafayette and Batesville just ahead of Plymouth. Rounding out the top ten is Nappanee at 5th, Linton is 6th, Greensburg was ranked 7th and Jasper 8th.  North Manchester and Portland complete the top 10.
