e-cigeretteParents and guardians of students in the Plymouth Community School Corporation were notified Wednesday evening by School Reach of an amendment to the student handbooks that went into effect immediately.

It was noted during the School Board meeting that some students thought they found a “grey” area in the school’s policies that would allow them to have e-cigarettes on school property. Tyree said, “We’ve probably confiscated, I’d say, 10 to 15 e-cigarettes or vapor pens since Christmas vacation.”

During the meeting Tyree said the handbooks are now in digital form and the amendment can easily be included. Urging the Board members to approve the amendment, he said, “We got this language from the school board association lawyer, David Emmert, and it would be my recommendation to include this language.”

Students found with e-cigarettes or vapor pens could be subject to expulsion or other penalties.
