PHS_Football StadiumProgress on proposed renovations to the Plymouth High School athletic field bleachers, press box and concession areas along with additions to the Administration Building seem to be moving ahead. During a monthly meeting on September 1, the Plymouth School Board postponed acting on a preliminary bond resolution, but did consider hiring an architect contingent on bond approval.

The Board was introduced to Joseph A. Dzierla of the South Bend firm of Joseph A. Dzierla & Associates, Inc.. Dzierla indicated that he will be looking at aspects of the projects. He said his firm was established in 1986 and has done work in Marshall County as well as in other areas in Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois.

During their August meeting, Board members viewed some conceptual drawings done in part by 2015 PHS graduate Cassandra Quisell who had been interning with the corporation for the summer. Also sharing more of the particulars of the projects was Dave Schoof, Facilities Director. Dzierla said he will be reviewing them, but will have to look further at building codes and structural aspects.

The cost for the proposed projects is estimated at $1,910,000 that could be paid for by a bond. If the projects move forward, Schoof told the Board in August that improvements would start at the end of the track season in 2016 and be completed before the start of the next school year.

Following the regular meeting, the Board held a 2016 budget hearing on the proposed approximately $35M budget. The Board had held a budget workshop following their August meeting. No audience member spoke for or against the proposed budget at the September 1 hearing.
