PHS_BAND_CAMP_DAY 1_aPlymouth High School’s Band Director Bryan Ames welcomes the community every night from 8:40 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for the next two weeks to stop by PHS on any night to see how much his band student are growing, performance-wise, during the school’s annual two-week camp.

PHS_BAND_CAMP_DAY 1_dThe camp runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. every day up until Friday, July 31.

PHS_BAND_CAMP_Day 1_eOn Monday the team of band camp coaches demonstrated how to walk and breath for optimal sound when playing an instrument. Students also learned about proper posture for ideal presentation!

PHS_BAND_CAMP_DAY 1_bYou may not have realized this … but marching in a band can be very physical – especially on a hot day like Plymouth experienced on Monday! Each student received a water bottle that they can fill up as often as needed to stay hydrated while attending the nine-hour a day two-week camp.

PHS_BAND_CAMP_Day 1_fThe coaching staff said proper fitness is essential for band members. For instance a tuba weighs approximately 30 pounds and in order to build and maintain good posture during an entire performance Ames said, “You have to be ready”.

PHS_BAND_CAMP_DAY II BACONOn Tuesday, the weather was much more pleasant and the second day of Band Camp brought the theme “Crazy Outfit Day”! One student wore a Halloween costume and showed up dressed as a piece of bacon!

PHS_BAND_CAMP_DAy 1_cWe are supposed to have gorgeous weather during the rest of the week! It’s the perfect reason to come see our talented PHS Band students and staff dedicating 10-days of the summer to perfecting their Marching Band skills at Plymouth High School.
