Bruce Smith SheriffDuring the public comment portion of the Marshall County Commissioner’s meeting this week, Bruce Smith from Redwood Road appeared once again seeking answers to his questions on procedures for road maintenance and repair.

Just prior to his comments, Commissioner President Kevin Overmyer informed him that he had 5 minutes for his comments.

Smith asked for a copy of the Paser Testing and results completed by MACOG.  He again asked who made the decision to remove Redwood Road and what criteria was used to make the decision.  He said, “I keep asking the same questions over and over because I have not received a straight answer to date.”

Bruce Smith 12-7-15Prior to his closing statement Smith read from this paperwork, “A lot of the way that the Highway Department is running does not seem to be well managed and no one is overseeing it at the commissioner level from what I have learned based on your responses verbally and in writing over the last three months.”

At the five minute mark, Overmyer told Mr. Smith he was out of time to wit Smith keep right on reading and said, “I would also like to say that this is a public meeting and that to shut a meeting down and have an individual be threatened to be escorted out when they are not being belligerent or out of line is not acceptable.”  Smith was referring to the last meeting when the Sheriff was asked to remove him from the meeting.

Smith continued his comment at Monday’s meeting saying, “The commissioners are ultimately responsible to the citizens of this county and should be helping to make life better in the county.”  At this point commissioners Deb Griewank asked the sheriff to remove Mr. Smith from the meeting.
