RelayForLIfe_Kickoff1Relay for Life of Marshall County held a special kicked event for the 2016 event Thursday evening on the Courthouse lawn.

RelayForLIfe_Kickoff3A luminaria ceremony was conducted and hundreds of white bags symbolizing loved ones who lost their battle, those that are currently battling the big C and those who are survivors lined the sidewalks all the way around the Courthouse.

RelayForLIfe_TedMC for the evening, Ted Brown told the large group gathered, “ Here is my challenge, to the 100 people still here.  What happens if we each raise $100?  I’m pretty sure if we all talk to our friends and really try we can crush our record.  We can make a difference but we all have to do our part.  You can’t just stand by and hope.  You have to do something.  That might be pray, it might be collect money…but you have to do something.  We owe it to every person that’s on that bag and every one that’s a survivor.  If we work together we can do it but it takes all of us.  And it takes us reaching out to our family.  Us reaching out to our friends and us reaching out to people we don’t know to get them involved.”

RelayForLIfe_Kickoff2The kick-off event will now allow Relay for Life teams to start their fundraising for the June 18th event.  The walk next year will take place in River Park Square from noon until midnight.
