Monday evening the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety handled a number of issues.
Jackson Services from Rochester was awarded the project to demolish four homes in the flood plain. During Monday night’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Jackson had the low bid of $32,500. Jackson Services will demolish three homes in the 300 block of East LaPorte Street near the foot bridge and the last home on Cleveland Street. The properties were acquired with FEMA funds and the city anticipates having the demolition project complete this fall.
Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt had an employee leave a week ago and he was granted permission to begin the hiring process to fill the vacancy.
City attorney Sean Surrisi said he sent letters to both railroad in the city about the crossings and so far the only one to respond was Chicago Fort Wayne Eastern. They control the crossing next to the Dairy Queen and have forward the city’s concerns on to the area manager and maintenance. The other railroad company that has the crossings on Jefferson, Harrison and Oak Drive has not responded yet.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works also ratified an executive order allowing the United Way to decorate the planter boxes in downtown Plymouth to help kickoff the annual campaign.
