FreedomPark_Ribbon CuttingTuesday evening Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter cut the ribbon on the all-inclusive playground call Freedom Park in Packard Woods.

The playground that will allow all children to play together was the dream of Tony Gamble who has a child with disabilities.  He approached Mayor Senter 7 years ago with the idea and a committee was created to create a design and fundraise for the million dollar park.

During a severe summer storm in 2014 a large tree fell on the existing playground structure.  The city received an insurance settlement and used additional funds to pay for the first phase of the park.  At the same time the Freedom Park committee stepped up to make major improvement to the restroom facility including making them handicap accessible.

Although children have been enjoying the new playground for a good portion of the summer, the grand opening was delayed due to the wet summer and the finalization of projects.

Members of the Plymouth Park Board, Park Department and City Council joined Mayor Senter at the event.
