Fire_Humane Society_1About 11:30 Wednesday morning the Marshall County 9-1-1 Dispatch Center received a call from the Marshall County Humane Society at 11165 13th Road with the call of a structure fire.

Fire_Humane Society_2As the Plymouth Fire Department responded to the scene a Trooper with the Indiana State Police arrived on scene first and was able to determine that the main structure was not on fire.  Radio traffic indicated that he was able to put the flames out with a fire extinguisher so the fire trucks didn’t even get to the shelter before they were cancelled en route.

FIre_Humane Society_3Fire Chief Rod Miller said the crematory was running and they had an unusually large animal in it.  Apparently the animal fat was more than usual and flames ended up shooting out of the smoke stack which scared the employees.

The crematory sits outside the main building but close to it on the south side under a metal car port.  There was no damage to either the structures or the crematory.
