Woolfington photoThis July will mark the seventh year that two Marshall County residents keep a commitment that they made to a friend.

Seven years ago Craig Woolfington succumbed in his fight with cancer and his friends Mark Lindsay and Tony Plothow promised their friend that they would be certain that his young daughter had a chance to attend college, and that his memory would not be forgotten.

“It’s hard to believe that nearly seven years have passed since Craig lost his battle with cancer,” said Lindsay. “Craig left behind his loving wife Trina and beautiful daughter Kate. We will always remember him as a caring, loving, good-humored person that touched the lives of everyone that knew him. We want to keep Craig’s memory alive and help find a cure for this dreaded disease.”

Every year since, Lindsay and Plothow have held a golf outing to raise money in Wofington’s name to fight cancer, and provide college scholarships – not just for daughter Kate – but to other students at Plymouth High School.

“Generous contributions made by several individuals and businesses, and an incredible number of golf participants and volunteers, have made the outings a huge success,” said Lindsay. “Due to the generosity of so many businesses and individuals, we are able to once again present a $1000 scholarship to a 2015 graduating senior at Plymouth High School.”

On July 10 the pair will host the 7th annual Craig Woolfington Memorial Golf Outing at Plymouth Country Club with registration beginning at 10 a.m. Cost is $80 per player or $320 for a team which includes 18 holes of golf with cart, buffet style lunch prior to tee off, beverages during lunch and on the course, appetizers following the round of golf, and several prize packages.

The format for this outing will be a four man, best ball scramble. The proceeds from this outing will go towards helping fund Kate’s education, the Craig Woolfington Cancer Research Fund, and the Craig Woolfington Scholarship Fund.

There is still help needed from local businesses and individuals to help fund this charitable event through donations, contributing items toward a silent auction, and fielding golf teams.
